You Are the Moon

Grandpa holds you

on the summer porch

moonlight shines thick

through lullaby dusk

you touch lavender air

with tiny hands

Grandma Moon lights the sand

her star army watches you

and then as you grow

Grandma Moon nestles deep

into your skin

with the moon in you now,

the owl’s eyes shine yellow

in your glow

no matter how far you go

on land or

across black velvet waters

the moonlight in you

illuminates sea anemone carpets

the moonlight in you shines fairy dust

on overgrown moss

lightning crashes waves

you are the moonlight compass

in the chaos
